We propose an entropy-based local characteristic decomposition (ELCD) to reduce spurious oscillations in high-order numerical methods for hyperbolic systems. Our method uses a state that minimizes entropy among candidates in phase space as the average interface state, improving sharpness of complex wave structures compared to traditional arithmetic averages.
