We develop a new, efficient method for approximating reduced order models of delay differential systems by operator-ADI balanced truncation of their infinite-dimensional history-state realization. Under mild conditions on the ADI shifts and Hankel singular values, this finite-rank approach converges to the exact reduction obtained by balancing the full system in $\mathcal H_\infty$.
