We develop a novel method for approximating scalar conservation laws with oscillatory fluxes using homogenization, leveraging the intrinsic viscosity of standard schemes to derive an effective equation. We show that this approach can be used in conjunction with the Lax-Friedrichs scheme and outperforms other methods on several test cases.
