We propose a first-order structure-preserving scheme for computing the normalized traveltime gradient of the eikonal equation in smooth first-arrival regions by combining spherical linear interpolation and spherical forward Euler pseudo-time integration. Our method preserves tangent equilibria on the unit sphere, improves orientation accuracy near these equilibria, and offers more accurate directions than traditional scalar methods with comparable computational cost.
