Logical Data Analysis for Egyptian Objects
A computational workflow applying Logical Data Analysis (LDA) to investigate destruction patterns among ancient Egyptian objects from the Cachette de Karnak. The workflow formalises observed destruction features as a binary context over 333 objects and uses the RAP (Rules and Patterns) algorithm, implemented in OSCAR via Jupyter Notebook, to extract a minimal implication basis from the data. The derived logical rules are evaluated for statistical and scientific relevance, testing whether damage distributions encode systematic, intentional destruction practice.
Main steps
Extract objects — extract 333 relevant objects from the Cachette de Karnak database.
Define properties — define discriminating properties for the subset.
Encode objects — encode each object as a binary string per property.
Compute rules — compute the Gröbner basis of the boolean ring to extract logical rules.
Interpret results — evaluate the statistical and scientific relevance of the derived implications.
