Minimal model fusion rules from 2-groups

Abstract: The fusion rules for the

(p, q)

-minimal model representations of the Virasoro algebra are shown to come from the group

in the following manner. There is a partition

G = P_{1} c u p ... c u p P_{N}

into disjoint subsets and a bijection between

P_{1}, ..., P_{N}

and the sectors

S_{1}, ..., S_{N}

of the

(p, q)

-minimal model such that the fusion rules

S_{i} * S_{j} = s u m_{k} D (S_{i}, S_{j}, S_{k}) S_{k}

correspond to

P_{i} * P_{j} = s u m_{k i n T (i, j)} P_{k}

where

T (i, j) = k | e x i s t s a i n P_{i}, e x i s t s b i n P_{j}, a + b i n P_{k}
