Normalizers of solvable spherical subgroups

From MaRDI portal

Abstract: For an arbitrary connected solvable spherical subgroup H of a connected semisimple algebraic group G we compute the group N_G(H), the normalizer of H in G. Thereby we complete a classification of all (not necessarily connected) solvable spherical subgroups in semisimple algebraic groups.

Let \(G\) be a connected semisimple complex algebraic group. By a spherical subgroup of \(G\) we mean a closed subgroup \(H\) of \(G\) such that the homogeneous space \(G/H\) has an open orbit for a Borel \(B\subset G\). One can show that \(H\subset G\) is spherical if and only if \(H^{\circ}\) is spherical, where \(H^{\circ}\) is the identity component in \(H\). Hence, the classification of spherical subgroups of \(G\) boils down to classifying all connected spherical subgroups \(H_0\subset G\) and for each such \(H_0\), finding all (closed) subgroups \(H\subset G\) with \(H^{\circ}=H_0\). The list of connected reductive spherical subgroups, for \(G\) simple, was obtained by \textit{M. Krämer} [Compos. Math. 38, 129--153 (1979; Zbl 0402.22006)] and for nonsimple semisimple \(G\), such a list was obtained by \textit{I. V. Mikityuk} [Math. USSR, Sb. 57, 527--546 (1987); translation from Mat. Sb., Nov. Ser. 129(171), No. 4, 514--534 (1986; Zbl 0652.70012)] and independently by \textit{M. Brion} [Compos. Math. 63, 189--208 (1987; Zbl 0642.14011)]. The author of the paper under review described connected solvable spherical subgroups in [Trans. Mosc. Math. Soc. 2010, 209--240 (2010); translation from Tr. Mosk. Mat. O.-va. 71, 235--269 (2010; Zbl 1223.14058)]. For a connected subgroup \(H_0\subset G\), a subgroup \(H\subset G\) with \(H^{\circ}=H_0\) is necessarily contained in \(N_G(H_0)\), the normalizer of \(H_0\) in \(G\). Therefore, one must compute \(N_G(H_0)\) for all connected spherical subgroups \(H_0\) of \(G\). In this paper, the author computes the normalizers of all connected solvable spherical subgroups of semisimple algebraic groups, hence completing the classification of all (not necessarily connected) solvable spherical subgroups in semisimple algebraic groups.
