On computing fundamental units
Zassenhaus, Pohst, Buchmann and Pethö have developed methods for determining the unit group \(U\) of an algebraic number field \(K\) of degree \(n\) over \(\mathbb{Q}\). In the paper under review, the author addresses the following goals: determining a maximal independent system \(S\) of units (hence a lower bound for the regulator \(R\) of \(K\)), giving an upper bound for the index of the group \(V\) generated by \(S\) in \(U\), enlarging \(V\) until \(U\) is obtained. For these purposes, the author is using previous results of his and others, sometimes improving upon them, or is creating new methods.
