On estimation of extremal entries of the principal eigenvector of a graph
The paper presents meaningful and original contributions to the field of spectral graph theory by establishing new bounds on the components of the principal eigenvector of a graph in relation to classical graph parameters. Specifically, the authors investigate the ratio of the largest to the smallest entry of the principal eigenvector corresponding to the spectral radius \(\lambda_1\) and relate this ratio to key invariants such as the independence number \(\beta\), the vertex cover number \(\alpha\), and the chromatic number \(\chi\).\N\NAmong the multiple contributions, the most notable result is encapsulated in the following theorem:\N\begin{itemize}\N\item[Theorem 3.1.] Let \(G\) be a graph of order \(n\) and minimum vertex cover number \(\alpha\). If \(\lambda_1\) is the spectral radius of \(G\), then\N\[\N\alpha \sqrt{n - 1} \geq \lambda_1.\N\]\NEquality holds if and only if \(G\) is a star graph \(K_{1,n-1}\) of order \(n\).\N\end{itemize}\NThis inequality provides an upper bound for the spectral radius in terms of the vertex cover number and the order of the graph. It not only deepens our theoretical understanding of spectral extremality in graphs but also establishes a clear structural characterization of the equality case, which is of considerable interest in extremal graph theory.\N\NIn addition to this central result, the paper offers several bounds on the maximal component \(x_{\max}\) and the ratio \(\frac{x_{\max}}{x_{\min}}\) of the principal eigenvector. These results contribute to the broader understanding of eigenvector localization, which has implications in network centrality measures, diffusion processes, and data clustering.\N\NOverall, the manuscript delivers mathematically elegant and practically relevant results that link combinatorial and spectral properties of graphs. It will be of considerable interest to researchers in spectral graph theory, applied mathematics, and network science.
