Pointwise universal trigonometric series

From MaRDI portal

Abstract: A series Sa=sumlimitsn=inftyinftyanzn is called a {it pointwise universal trigonometric series} if for any finC(T), there exists a strictly increasing sequence nkkinN of positive integers such that sumlimitsj=nknkajzj converges to f(z) pointwise on T. We find growth conditions on coefficients allowing and forbidding the existence of a pointwise universal trigonometric series. For instance, if |an|=O(e,|n|ln1epsilon|n|) as |n|oinfty for some epsilon>0, then the series Sa can not be pointwise universal. On the other hand, there exists a pointwise universal trigonometric series Sa with |an|=O(e,|n|ln1|n|) as |n|oinfty.
