Proof of a conjecture of Stanley about Stern's array
From MaRDI portal
Abstract: Stanley, building on work of Stern, defined an array of numbers by the recurrence , . Stanley showed that, for each positive integer , the sequence obeys a homogeneous linear recurrence in of length . Numerical evidence, however, suggested that obeys shorter recurrences, of length . We prove Stanley's conjecture.
