A characterization of residually finite HNN-extensions of finitely generated Abelian groups

The authors prove the following: Let \(G=<t,K|\) \(t^{-1}At=B\), \(\phi >\) is an HNN-extension where K is a finitely generated abelian group. G is residually finite if and only if either \(A=K\) or \(B=K\) or there exists a normal \(\phi\)-invariant subgroup H of finite index, where A and B are supposed to be of finite index in K.
