Calculus on Cantor triadic set. II: Exceptional set
In a previous paper (Part I) [Appl. Math., Ser. B (Engl. Ed.) 12, No. 4, 483-492 (1997; Zbl 0889.28003)] the author defined a derivative for a real-valued function \(f\) on a Cantor triadic set and introduced a Newton-Leibniz-type formula: \[ f(x)-f(0)=\sum_{k\geq 1}\left(\sum_{J\in S^k, J\leq x} \delta(J)\right)+\int_0^x f' dm, \] \noindent where m is a natural weight distribution on the Cantor triadic set \(\mathbb C\), \((S^k)\) a partition of the set of all connected components of \([0,1]\setminus \mathbb C\). The first term of the right hand side, denoted by \(\Delta (x)\), defines the jumping function. In the paper under review, the author determines the exceptional set for the alternating jumping function (the construction of alternating \(\Delta(x)\) is analogous to Leibniz's theorem on alternating series). The exceptional set of \(\Delta\) is the set where its derivative does not exist. It is shown that for a special partition for which \(\sum_{J}| \delta(J) |= \infty\), \(\Delta'(x)\) does not exist for \(m\)-a.e. \(x\in\mathbb C\). For a nontrivial self-similar function with condensing ratio \((t_1,t_2)\), the derivative is expressed in terms of the relation between \(t_1, t_2\).
