The author discusses clearly and in great depth deformation and quantization of the group algebra \(C{\mathcal S}_n\) of the symmetric group in the limit \(n\to\infty\). The main tool is the inductive limit of towers of separable algebras and of modules. Recalling some basic facts about towers of algebras, separability of algebras and the definition of the Hecke algebra, the representation theory of Hecke algebras is developed for generic \(q\). Coproducts and the relation to quantum Yang-Baxter matrices are given. The main goal, however, is the infinite case. It is proved, that the Isomorphism Extension Theorem, valid in the finite-dimensional case, cannot be utilized in the infinite setting. While the inductive limit of a tower of separable algebras is unchanged by consistent deformations, one may obtain non-trivially deformed, thereby `quantized' limiting modules. One observes, that the quantized case more closely resembles the finite one. The theory allows the definition and construction of quantized intersection cardinality functions. Using a special example, it is demonstrated that the deformation obtained is nontrivial and behaves like a jump deformation.
