Abstract: It is in general unknown which topological complex vector bundles on a non-algebraic surface admit holomorphic structures. We solve this problem for primary Kodaira surfaces by using results of Kani on curves of genus two with elliptic differentials. Some of the corresponding moduli spaces will be smooth compact and holomorphically symplectic.

Recall that a primary Kodaira surface \(X\) is a principal elliptic bundle over an elliptic curve. For all integers \(r \geq 2\), \(c_1,c_2\) set \(\Delta (r,c_1,c_2):= (c_2-(r-1)c^2_1/2r)/r\). For every holomorphic vector bundle \(E\) on \(X\) set \(\Delta (E):= \Delta ( \text{rank}(E),c_1(E),c_2(E))\). Here the authors prove a very nice result, i.e. they show that for a triple \((r,c_1,c_2)\) with \(r\geq 2\) there is a rank \(r\) holomorphic vector bundle \(E\) on \(X\) with \(c_1(E) = c_1\) and \(c_2(E) = c_2\) if and only if \(\Delta (r,c_1,c_2) \geq 0\). The case \(r\Delta (r,c_1,c_2)\) an integer was previously done by one of the authors [\textit{M. Toma}, C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris, Sér. I 323, 501--505 (1996; Zbl 0889.32022)].
