On the nonexistence of the closed orbit for a Liénard system
Topological structure of integral curves, singular points, limit cycles of ordinary differential equations (34C05) Theory of limit cycles of polynomial and analytic vector fields (existence, uniqueness, bounds, Hilbert's 16th problem and ramifications) for ordinary differential equations (34C07) Periodic solutions to ordinary differential equations (34C25) Relaxation oscillations for ordinary differential equations (34C26) Stability of solutions to ordinary differential equations (34D20)
Consider the Liénard system \((*)\) \( dx/dt = y\), \(dy/dt = -(\varepsilon_2 x+\varepsilon_1)y+x^2+x\). Transforming this system into the Takens-Bogdanov normal form, the author determines regions in the \(\varepsilon_1\), \(\varepsilon_2\)-parameter plane such that \((*)\) has no nontrivial periodic solution.
