Abstract: We introduce the concept of a direct Comegaast-system and show that every non-separable unital Cast-algebra is the limit of essentially unique direct Comegaast-system. This result is then applied to the problem of characterization of projective unital Cast-algebras. It is shown that a non-separable unital Cast-algebra X of density au is projective if and only if it is the limit of a well ordered direct system mathcalSX=Xalpha,ialphaalpha+1,alpha<au of length au, consisting of unital projective Cast-subalgebras Xalpha of X and doubly projective homomorphisms (inclusions) ialphaalpha+1colonXalphaoXalpha+1, alpha<au, so that X0 is separable and each ialphaalpha+1, alpha<au, has a separable type. In addition we show that a doubly projective homomorphism fcolonXoY of unital projective Cast-algebras has a separable type if and only if there exists a pushout diagram [ egin{CD} X @>f>> Y @A{p}AA @AA{q}A X_{0} @>f_{0}>> Y_{0}, end{CD} ] oindent where X0 and Y0 are separable unital projective Cast-algebras and the homomorphisms i0colonX0oY0, pcolonX0oX and qcolonY0oY are doubly projective. These two results provide a complete characterization of non-separable projective unital Cast-algebras in terms of separable ones.
