Abstract: Let be a torus and a compact Hamiltonian -manifold with finite fixed point set . If is a circle subgroup of with , the -moment map is a Morse function. We will show that the associated Morse stratification of by unstable manifolds gives one a canonical basis of . A key ingredient in our proof is the notion of local index for and . We will show that corresponding to this stratification there is a basis , , for as a module over characterized by the property: . For a GKM manifold we give an explicit construction of these 's in terms of the associated GKM graph.
