Abstract: Let G=(V,E) be a finite graph and MG be the centered Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator defined there. We find the optimal value such that the inequality ext{Var}_{p}(M_{G}f)leq { extbf{C}}_{G,p} ext{Var}_{p}(f) holds for every f:VomathbbR, where extVarp stands for the p-variation, when: (i) G=Kn (complete graph) and pin[fraclog(4)log(6),infty) or G=K4 and pin(0,infty); (ii) G=Sn (star graph) and 1gepgefrac12; pin(0,frac12) and ngeC(p) or G=S3 and pin(1,infty). We also find the value of the norm |MG|2 when: (i) G=Kn and nge3; (ii) G=Sn and nge3.
