Abstract: Given a semigroup $S$ generated by its squares equipped with an involutive automorphism $sigma$ and a multiplicative function $mu:SomathbbC$ such that $mu(xsigma(x))=1$ for all $xinS$, we determine the complex-valued solutions of the following functional equation.
