Abstract: Our goal is to study controllability and observability properties of the 1D heat equation with internal control (or observation) set , in the limit , where . It is known that depending on arithmetic properties of , there may exist a minimal time of pointwise control at of the heat equation. Besides, for any fixed, the heat equation is controllable with control set in any time . We relate these two phenomena. We show that the observability constant on does not converge to as at the same speed when (in which case it is comparable to ) or (in which case it converges faster to ). We also describe the behavior of optimal null-controls on in the limit .
