Abstract: Let denote an equivariant embedding of a connected reductive group over an algebraically closed field . Let denote a Borel subgroup of and let denote a -orbit closure in . When the characteristic of is positive and is projective we prove that is globally -regular. As a consequence, is normal and Cohen-Macaulay for arbitrary and arbitrary characteristics. Moreover, in characteristic zero it follows that has rational singularities. This extends earlier results by the second author and M. Brion.
