Self homotopy groups with large nilpotency classes

Let \(G\) be a compact connected Lie group. Then the self homotopy group \([G,G]\) is a nilpotent group. The authors show that for any positive integer \(n\) there exists a \(G\) with \([G,G]\) having nilpotency class greater than \(n\).
