Abstract: Let g(t)tin[0,T) be the solution of the Ricci flow on a closed Riemannian manifold Mn with ngeq3. Without any assumption, we derive lower volume bounds of the form mVolg(t)geqC(Tt)fracn2, where C depends only on n, T and g(0). In particular, we show that { m Vol}_{g(t)} geq e^{ Tlambda-frac{n}{2}} left(frac{4}{(A(lambda-r)+4B)T} ight)^{frac{n}{2}}left(T-t ight)^{frac{n}{2}}, where r:=inf|phi|22=1intMRphi2dmvolg(0), lambda:=inf|phi|22=1intM4|ablaphi|2+Rphi2dmvolg(0) and A,B are Sobolev constants of (M,g(0)). This estimate is sharp in the sense that it is achieved by the unit sphere with scalar curvature Rg(0)=n(n1) and A=frac4n(n2)omeganfrac2n, B=fracn1n2omeganfrac2n. On the other hand, if the diameter satisfies mdiamg(t)leqc1sqrtTt and there exist a point x0inM such that R(x0,t)leqc2(Tt)1, then we have mVolg(t)leqC(Tt)fracn2 for all t>fracT2, where C depends only on c1,c2,n,T and g(0).
