(o)-Topology in *-algebras of locally measurable operators

Abstract: We consider the locally measure topology $t(mathcalM)$ on the *-algebra $LS(mathcalM)$ of all locally measurable operators affiliated with a von Neumann algebra $mathcalM$. We prove that $t(mathcalM)$ coincides with the $(o)$-topology on $L{S}_h(mathcalM)=TinLS(mathcalM):T^{\ast }=T$ if and only if the algebra $mathcalM$ is $sigma$-finite and a finite algebra. We study relationships between the topology $t(mathcalM)$ and various topologies generated by faithful normal semifinite traces on $mathcalM$.
