Abstract: Let be a local Artinian Gorenstein ring with algebraically closed residue field of characteristic 0, and let be its Poincar'e series. We prove that is rational if either and or there exist and such that the Hilbert function of is equal to for and equal to 1 for . The results are obtained thanks to a decomposition of the apolar ideal when and and belong to polynomial rings in different variables.
