Abstract: Using the Davies-Helffer-Sj"ostrand functional calculus based on almost analytic extensions, we address the following problem: Given self-adjoint operators Sj, j=1,2, in mathcalH, and functions f in an appropriate class, for instance, finC0infty(mathbbR), how to control the norm |f(S2)f(S1)|mathcalB(mathcalH) in terms of the norm of the difference of resolvents, |(S2z0ImathcalH)1(S2z0ImathcalH)1|mathcalB(mathcalH), for some . We are particularly interested in the case where mathcalB(mathcalH) is replaced by a trace ideal, mathcalBp(mathcalH), pin[1,infty).
