Abstract: We prove that all monomials of $kappa$-classes and $psi$-classes are independent in $R^k(oc{M}_{g,n})/R^k(partialoc{M}_{g,n})$ for all $kleq[g/3]$. We also give a simple argument for $kapp{a}_{l}eq0$ in $R^l(mathcal{M}_g)$ for $lleqg-2$.
