Abstract: In this note, we consider rational cuspidal plane curves having exactly one cusp whose complements have logarithmic Kodaira dimension two. We classify such curves with the property that the strict transforms of them via the minimal embedded resolution of the cusp have the maximal self-intersection number. We show that the curves given by the classification coincide with those constructed by Orevkov.

The author consider rational unicuspidal curves \(C\) in the complex projective plane \(\mathbb P ^2_{\mathbb C}\) and the logarithmic Kodaira dimension \(\bar{\mathcal K}\) of the complement \(\mathbb P ^2_{\mathbb C} \setminus C\). He involves the strict transform \(C'\) of a rational unicuspidal plane curve \(C\) via the minimal embedded resolution of the cusp of \(C\). It is known that \(\bar{\mathcal K} = - \infty\) if and only if \((C')^2 > -2\) and there exist no rational cuspidal plane curves with \(\bar{\mathcal K} =0\). The author studied the case \(\bar{\mathcal K} =1\) in an article of 2001 [RIMS Kokyuroku 1233, 82--89 (2001; Zbl 0992.14503)]. In the paper under review, the author proves that in the case \(\bar{\mathcal K}=2\) the rational unicuspidal plane curve \(C\) satisfies \((C')^2 =-2\) if and only if \(C\) is projectively equivalent to one of the curves constructed in [\textit{S. Yu. Orevkov}, Math. Ann. 324, No. 4, 657--673 (2002; Zbl 1014.14010)].
