Abstract: Let be a connected reductive group over a perfect field . We study a certain normal reductive monoid associated to a parabolic -subgroup of . The group of units of is the Levi factor of . We show that is a retract of the affine closure of the quasi-affine variety . Fixing a parabolic opposite to , we prove that the affine closure of is a retract of the affine closure of the boundary degeneration . Using idempotents, we relate to the Vinberg semigroup of . The monoid is used implicitly in the study of stratifications of Drinfeld's compactifications of the moduli stacks and .
