Abstract: The property of superadditivity of the quantum relative entropy states that, in a bipartite system mathcalHAB=mathcalHAotimesmathcalHB, for every density operator hoAB one has D(hoAB||sigmaAotimessigmaB)geD(hoA||sigmaA)+D(hoB||sigmaB). In this work, we provide an extension of this inequality for arbitrary density operators sigmaAB. More specifically, we prove that alpha(sigmaAB)cdotD(hoAB||sigmaAB)geD(hoA||sigmaA)+D(hoB||sigmaB) holds for all bipartite states hoAB and sigmaAB, where alpha(sigmaAB)=1+2||sigmaA1/2otimessigmaB1/2,sigmaAB,sigmaA1/2otimessigmaB1/2mathbb1AB||infty.
