Abstract: We study the Yamabe invariants of cylindrical manifolds and compact orbifolds with a finite number of singularities, by means of conformal geometry and the Atiyah-Patodi-Singer -index theory. For an -orbifold with singularities (where each group is of finite order), we define and study the emph{orbifold Yamabe invariant} . We prove that coincides with the corresponding - defined by the authors cite{AB2}, where is the standard metric on the slice of each end with infinity . Using this, we show that is bounded by from above, where . For a cylindrical 4-manifold with a general slice metric on the end, we also establish a method for estimating the -cylindrical Yamabe invariant from above, in terms of the geometry and topology of . We conclude by an explicit estimate of for particular cylindrical 4-manifolds , including that of for 4-orbifolds .
