Abstract: Let be the -fold symmetric product of a compact connected Riemann surface of genus and gonality . We prove that admits a K"ahler structure such that all the holomorphic bisectional curvatures are nonpositive if and only if . Let be the Quot scheme parametrizing the torsion quotients of of degree . If and , we prove that does not admit a K"ahler structure such that all the holomorphic bisectional curvatures are nonnegative.
