Abstract: The issue of general covariance of spinors and related objects is reconsidered. Given an oriented manifold , to each spin structure and Riemannian metric there is associated a space of spinor fields on and a Hilbert space of -spinors of . The group of orientation-preserving diffeomorphisms of acts both on (by pullback) and on (by a suitably defined pullback ). Any lifts in exactly two ways to a unitary operator from to . The canonically defined Dirac operator is shown to be equivariant with respect to the action of , so in particular its spectrum is invariant under the diffeomorphisms.
