Abstract: We provide closed-form expressions for the degree-derivatives [partial2Pu(z)/partialu2]u=n and [partialQu(z)/partialu]u=n, with zinmathbbC and ninmathbbN0, where Pu(z) and Qu(z) are the Legendre functions of the first and the second kind, respectively. For [partial2Pu(z)/partialu2]u=n, we find that displaystylefrac{partial^{2}P_{

u}(z)}{partial u^{2}}igg|_{ u=n}=-2P_{n}(z) extrm{Li}_{2}frac{1-z}{2}+B_{n}(z)lnfrac{z+1}{2}+C_{n}(z), where extrmLi2[(1−z)/2] is the dilogarithm function, Pn(z) is the Legendre polynomial, while Bn(z) and Cn(z) are certain polynomials in z of degree n. For [partialQu(z)/partialu]u=n and zinmathbbCsetminus[−1,1], we derive displaystyle frac{partial Q_{ u}(z)}{partial u}igg|_{

u=n}=-P_{n}(z) extrm{Li}_{2}frac{1-z}{2}-frac{1}{2}P_{n}(z)lnfrac{z+1}{2}lnfrac{z-1}{2} +frac{1}{4}B_{n}(z)lnfrac{z+1}{2}-frac{(-1)^{n}}{4}B_{n}(-z)lnfrac{z-1}{2}-frac{pi^{2}}{6}P_{n}(z) +frac{1}{4}C_{n}(z)-frac{(-1)^{n}}{4}C_{n}(-z). A counterpart expression for [partialQu(x)/partialu]u=n, applicable when xin(−1,1), is also presented. Explicit representations of the polynomials Bn(z) and Cn(z) as linear combinations of the Legendre polynomials are given.
