Abstract: Let be a finite abelian group and denote the Davenport constant of . We derive new upper bound for the Davenport constant for all groups of rank three. Our main result is that: D(C_{n_1}oplus C_{n_2}oplus C_{n_3})le (n_1-1)+(n_2-1)+(n_3-1)+1+ (a_3-3)(n_1-1), where and is a constant. Therefore grows linearly with the variables The new result is the given upper bound for . Finally, we give an application of the Davenport constant to smooth numbers.
