Abstract: For a completely regular space and a non-vanishing self-adjoint closed subalgebra of which separates points from closed sets in we construct the Gelfand spectrum of as an open subspace of the compactification of generated by . The simple construction of enables easier examination of its properties. We illustrate this by an example showing that the space is separable metrizable if and only if is countably generated.
