Abstract: Let $(C(t){)}_{tinR}$ be a cosine function in a unital Banach algebra. We show that if $su{p}_{tinR}VertC(t)-cos(t)Vertextless2$ for some continuous scalar bounded cosine function $(c(t){)}_{tinR},$ then the closed subalgebra generated by $(C(t){)}_{tinR}$ is isomorphic to $C^k$ for some positive integer $k.$ If, further, $su{p}_{tinR}VertC(t)-cos(t)Vertextless8over3sqrt3,$ or if $c(t)=I$, then $C(t)=c(t)$ for $tinR.$
