Abstract: We show that if the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is bounded on a separable Banach function space X(mathbbRn) and on its associate space X(mathbbRn), then a pseudodifferential operator operatornameOp(a) is bounded on X(mathbbRn) whenever the symbol a belongs to the H"ormander class Sho,deltan(ho1) with 0<hole1, 0ledelta<1 or to the the Miyachi class Sho,deltan(ho1)(varkappa,n) with 0ledeltalehole1, 0ledelta<1, and varkappa>0. This result is applied to the case of variable Lebesgue spaces Lp(cdot)(mathbbRn).
