Abstract: Let G be a real reductive connected Lie group and sigma an involution of G. Let H denote the identity component of the group of fixed points of sigma, mathfrakg the Lie algebra of G and mathfrakq the -1 eigenspace of sigma in mathfrakg. The group H acts naturally on mathfrakq via the adjoint representation. Let Cinfty(mathfrakq)H denote the algebra of H-invariant smooth functions on mathfrakq, and mathfrakX(mathfrakq)H the space of H-invariant smooth vetor fields on mathfrakq. Any vetor field XinmathfrakX(mathfrakq)H defines naturally a derivation DX of the algebra Cinfty(mathfrakq)H. We prove that the image of the map XmapstoDX is the set of derivations of the algebra Cinfty(mathfrakq)H preserving the ideal itPhiCinfty(mathfrakq)H of Cinfty(mathfrakq)H, where itPhi is a discriminant function on mathfrakq.
