Abstract: -self-adjoint extensions of the Phillips symmetric operator are studied. The concepts of stable and unstable -symmetry are introduced in the extension theory framework. The main results are the following: if is a -self-adjoint extension of , then either or ; if has a real spectrum, then has a stable -symmetry and is similar to a self-adjoint operator; there are no -self-adjoint extensions of the Phillips operator with unstable -symmetry.
