Abstract: For a finite dimensional Lie algebra over a field of characteristic zero, the -function (respectively -function) is defined to be the minimal dimension of such that admits a faithful representation (respectively a faithful nilrepresentation) on . Let be the Heisenberg Lie algebra of dimension and let be the abelian Lie algebra of dimension . The aim of this paper is to compute and for all .
