Abstract: Let d and n be positive integers with ngeqd+1 and au1,...,aun integers with au1<...<aun. Let Cd(au1,...,aun)subsetRRd denote the cyclic polytope of dimension d with n vertices (au1,au12,...,au1d),...,(aun,aun2,...,aund). We are interested in finding the smallest integer gammad such that if aui+1auigeqgammad for 1leqi<n, then Cd(au1,...,aun) is normal. One of the known results is gammadleqd(d+1). In the present paper a new inequality gammadleqd21 is proved. Moreover, it is shown that if dgeq4 with au3au2=1, then Cd(au1,...,aun) is not very ample.
