Abstract: We review some recent results on the extension of the gauge/gravity correspondence to include matter in the fundamental representation by adding D-branes to the supergravity backgrounds. Working in the quenched approximation, in which the D-branes are considered as probes, we show how to compute the meson spectrum for a general case of brane intersections which are dual to supersymmetric gauge theories with matter supermultiplets in several dimensions.
