Abstract: We resolve the controversy in the high temperature behavior of the sphaleron rate in the abelian Higgs model in 1+1 dimensions. The behavior at intermediate lattice spacings is found to change into behavior in the continuum limit. The results are supported by analytic arguments that the classical approximation is good for this model.
