The paper is devoted to the history of the Weyl-Titchmarsh function which plays a significant role in the Sturm-Liouville theory and in the theory of Sturm-Liouville-type difference equations. This history is associated with the names of Weyl, Hellinger, Nevanlinna and Titchmarsh.
