Abstract: In order to see the behavior of canonical bases at , we introduce the notion of crystals associated to an quantum group of certain quasi-split type. The theory of crystals clarifies why canonical basis elements are not always preserved under natural homomorphisms. Also, we construct a projective system of crystals whose projective limit can be thought of as the canonical basis of the modified quantum group at .
