Abstract: Let mathcalM be a semifinite von Neumann algebra on a Hilbert space mathcalH equipped with a faithful normal semifinite trace au, S(mathcalM,au) be the *-algebra of all au-measurable operators. Let S0(mathcalM,au) be the *-algebra of all au-compact operators and T(mathcalM,au)=S0(mathcalM,au)+mathbbCI be the *-algebra of all operators X=A+lambdaI with AinS0(mathcalM,au) and lambdainmathbbC. We prove that every operator of T(mathcalM,au) that is left-invertible in T(mathcalM,au) is in fact invertible in T(mathcalM,au). It is a generalization of Sterling Berberian theorem (1982) on the subalgebra of thin operators in mathcalB(mathcalH). For the singular value function mu(t;Q) of Q=Q2inS(mathcalM,au) we have for all t>0. It gives the positive answer to the question posed by Daniyar Mushtari in 2010.
