Abstract: Let X be a complex algebraic K3 surface of degree 2d and with Picard number ho. Assume that X admits two commuting involutions: one holomorphic and one anti-holomorphic. Our main result consists in constructing such K3 surfaces X with ho=1 when d=1, and ho=2 when dgeq2, and showing that these are the lowest possible values for ho. For infinitely many values of d, including d=1,2,3,4, we give explicit examples of K3 surfaces of degree 2d that are defined over mathbbQ, admit the two commuting involutions, and realise the minimal Picard number.
