Abstract: Let mathscrA be a finite set of closed rational points in projective space, let mathscrI be the vanishing ideal of mathscrA, and let mathscrD(mathscrA) be the set of exponents of those monomials which do not occur as leading monomials of elements of mathscrI. We show that the size of mathscrA equals the number of axes contained in mathscrD(mathscrA). Furthermore, we present an algorithm for the construction of the Gr"obner basis of mathscrI(mathscrA), hence also of mathscrD(mathscrA).
